Together

It is so good to be together. How true this has been in light of spending so many months apart! Our last ‘normal’ Sunday worship was March 8th. And while the limited reopening has been most welcome, it’s different. For the number who attend, we are spread out, masked and discreetly ushered out of the building after service. We cannot congregate to just be together.

And this reality strains the principle of Hebrews 10:24-45, “24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” How can we not neglect meeting together? To gather together is difficult in itself. We can’t meet physically for small groups! So in light of this very unideal circumstance, can we just place this principle to the side until the ideal returns?

We can draw insight from the apostle Paul. Even though Paul was forcibly quarantined in prison for much of his ministry, he did not neglect meeting together with the saints. How was this possible? Technology. Paul wrote letters to the Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon all while under house arrest. Certainly this was not ideal. He was not physically present. But he did the next best thing.

I pray that we will meditate on Hebrews 10:24-25 for encouragement in our very unideal situation. Fall small groups will continue to be different. We can’t meet together as we would like. Though, let us do the next best thing- technology. Let us use Zoom to meet together, as difficult as it has become! I pray you will sign up for small groups. Not only that you might be encouraged but that the Lord might encourage many through you. All for His glory! Amen.
